Hello and welcome to The Hummingbird. As a local company, we are passionate about Denbigh. It has more listed buildings that any other town in Wales, is by an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and has a good quality of life and strong community. For us, this makes it an attractive area to live and a place to invest.

Throughout our careers, we have helped businesses and individuals change and achieve their potential. Even in its semi-derelict state, we saw the potential of the building and positive impact that it could make on the town.

When we bought the building, we set some really clear objectives that we wanted to achieve:

To restore a historically significant building

After a four-year renovation, the upper floors are now fully restored with some historical features on show for the first time in many years. We firmly believe in doing something once and doing it well and hope that we have got the balance right between celebrating the history of the building, but also providing the modern amenities that people expect.

We plan to open a café on the ground floor in phase two and we will keep you posted!

Help to regenerate the centre of Denbigh, drive footfall to the town, and increase economic activity

We had around 65 local tradespeople and professionals work on the renovations including seven apprentices. We have over 100 guests per year staying in our holiday lets who all spend money in the local area and provide local produce in our welcome baskets. We have three businesses based in our workspaces, employing more than 20 people. Two of those businesses are start-ups in the health and wellbeing sector who chose our town for their new ventures. The other business is an expanding business in the care sector.

Create an attractive environment for people to work and stay and thus a viable business

Our workspaces are now fully occupied, and our Airbnb’s are in the top 5%.

Promote the heritage of the building and the town and improve public access for all to this listed building

We worked closely with Denbigh Archive to find out more about the history of the building and have been amazed at the stories people have shared about their connections to it. Some of this history and these stories are shared here and we hope to have a physical space in the building to celebrate this history in due course.

To date, we have had had hundreds of people visit, work or stay in the building and they have been really excited to see parts of the building that haven’t been open to the public before. The ground floor café that will open in phase two will have accessible toilets, be dog friendly and have free Internet to enable The Hummingbird to be a place for the whole community.
